Update: We’re official! Check out our new Biobased Product Certification

Update - March 2023:

March 8 marks the Inaugural National Biobased Products Day, a day designed to raise awareness of biobased products and their benefits. This day is a collective effort to improve sustainability, grow U.S. manufacturing, create jobs and benefit rural communities. Join us in celebrating National Biobased Products Day and learn more about the many innovative products available for use at home, in the office, on the playground, at construction sites, and of course Zungleboo dinnerware!

Update - September 2022:

Who doesn’t like being called a champion? That’s what happened this week when we heard from the U.S. Department of Agriculture announcing the 20th anniversary of their BioPreferred Program. The note said, “As a Program Participant, you have been instrumental to our success, and we want to extend our sincere thanks for your involvement and support. We also want to recognize you as a BioPreferred Program Champion and show our appreciation for businesses like yours that have shown faith in our mission.”

We’re grateful to be a part of the mission and proud to be in the company of 6,200 other products who have achieved Biobased Product Certification. Together, we’re making a difference. For more information on the program, check out the original post below.

At Zungleboo, we’re celebrating our freshly-minted official USDA Certified Biobased Product label.

What the heck does that mean? It means that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has recognized that Zungleboo’s plates and bowls come from renewable sources.

The USDA notes that “utilizing renewable, biobased materials displace the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. Biobased products, through petroleum displacement, have played an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that exacerbate global climate change.”

That’s a long-winded way of saying that it’s good for the environment, which is the driving force behind our mission at Zungleboo. From the start, we worked toward finding a solution to offer plant-based, reusable tableware that looked good, fit into people’s lives and was sustainable.

Our plates and bowls are made from a high-quality corn starch called polylactic acid (PLA for short), bamboo fibers and other natural materials. And when it comes to manufacturing, bioplastics manufacturing emits about 80% less greenhouse gases than petroleum plastics manufacturing.

And did we mention they look great on your table?
